Software and intelligent systemsThe LSI (Logiciels Systèmes Intelligents / Software and Intelligent Systems)
Carnot Institute consists of 28 research teams from Joseph Fourier University – Grenoble, INP Grenoble, CNRS and INRIA.
PresentationLSI : booster for software innovationLSI deals with the entire software production process: modelling, design, implementation, administration and evolution.
LSI focuses on emerging applications (health, home automation, embedded systems, ...) in order to respond to their specific needs in security, interoperability, users acceptability,…etc. In the heart of Minalogic competitiveness cluster, LSI is also involved in many industrial collaborations at national and European level with a permanent goal to foster technology and know-how transfer. LSI is also involved in engineering for health through the Clinical Investigation Center-Technological Innovation Centre (CIC-IT) of the Grenoble university hospital. The technologies developed by the LSI teams have been the subject of many patent applications and software deposits and of 17 start-ups since 1995.
Stakes and challengesThe themes covered by LSI correspond to major economic and social stakes, since software components and integrated systems, all designed for very specific functions, are assembled and deployed in the physical world, in areas such as:
- Telecommunications,
- Health,
- Intelligent management of energy,
- Applications for smart card and electronic tags,
- Transport,
- Home digital systems.
Strategic directionsIn order to respond to the challenges created by these new applications, LSI chooses to work within a strategic perimeter which includes the following scientific subjects :
- Modelling and systems validation: virtual prototypes offer real advantage for the validation, understanding, animation and virtual execution.
- Optimal software production: from the very start, at the design stage, extra-functional properties concerning the target platform and external environment are taken into account.
- Software and hardware infrastructures (wireless, ad’hoc, …) : design of adaptable and self-organizing software infrastructures required to operate and manage complex networks.
- Perception, reasoning, action: embedded intelligence to optimally monitor real time systems.
- Conception and evaluation of Graphical User Interfaces: refine the user centred approach for future innovative intelligent devices
- Design and integration of workflow: software design integrated environments and execution platform for independent intelligent embedded systems.
